Filed edge? Roosey with mumps? Beginning of a
tiny ring?

:dontknow:

Thanks!

It looks like someone started to make a ring then realized how tedious and time consuming it is. So the project was abandoned...

That's what I thought initially. I've never even seen one being made. But, a dime!? Wouldn't that make a particularly tiny ring? :dontknow:

Thanks for your help!

A dime would make a tiny ring.

People used to make them by tapping the edge of a silver coin with a spoon. It takes a long time.

A guy in my club found one on private property once. We showed it to the owner and she said it was her father's - made from a 1942 Quarter. The date was visible on the inside of the band. It had been made by her father's friend who was in prison - so I guess he had time on his hands to tap out a ring...

I'm about ready to mark this solved. But I'll leave it up for a bit. The edges on this coin do not look tapped at all. Maybe, ground down?

Any experts out know of any mint error that could cause this effect?

Still just curious.
Thanks!
