Strange copper vial?

Hi Everybody! Never seen one of these, so hoping someone can help me out here. Dug this at an old homesite, now a plowed field, dating back to early 1900's. I thought it was a bullet casing, but it has some decoration and seems to be a copper vial of some sort. Thanks so much for any info you can offer!

yeah, looks like the avon sample lipstick my Mom used to get when I was a kid before they started putting them in plastic tubes
