yes --the arab republic union was to be group of arabic states sort of a union of arabic states type of thing -- but it broke up when syria backed out --- its main backers were egypt and syria -- the "eagle of saladin" is comman on lots of eygptian coinage ---saladin was a famous muslim warrior that took the holy lands for the muslim cause --he was the fighter against "richard" the loin hearted --

Sweet, it is the same coin, well the bird is the same, but the middle lettering is a little different.

that style of eagle is comman on many egyptain coins -- the syrian 5 coin made of silver was made to "honor" the founding of the ARAB REPUBLIC UNION (egypt coins are not silver normally) --- after syria pulled out --of the "union" --egypt still used the symbol of the "SALADIN" eagle on its coins for many years --thus the eagle on one side with a differant back design *is likely to be egyptain ---being a merchant seaman I often travelled thru the suez canal (eygpt) thus my knowledge is first hand having seen and handled similar coins --(see the first "answer" post -- were I said think egypt)
