Hi, can anyone tell what this is/was

Too many uniformities to be just a tumbled stone

Bit broken off the head part, so perhaps some kind of old pendant ?

Found it in a antique shop years ago

Welcome to TreasureNet, sorry all I'm seeing is natural stone.

Looks like a cicada to me. Maybe carved them left to weather before being found again? People have been making things from stone for longer than modern science has an answer for.

Damn cool whatever it is.

Thanks for the info, hadn't thought of that, that would explain the detail loss

You can see 6 mirrored leg lines on the back

Hard to see how mother nature could create this in a rock

I see definite symmetry on the front as well

Just came to Mind, If it was not connected to a ring or Something,

The Square on the Back may have a Makers Stamp in it.
I'm not convinced it's Natural stone.

And I am thinking it was Plated at some point, By the Color Difference, front & Back

It certainly captures the imagination. Its what I call a Picture Rock. Entirely natural, probably chalcedony but it could be agate as well. Personally I see an owl as well. Neat find.
