Strange Bronze Item

Found this bronze item today on an abandoned farmfield. I have no idea of what it could be. It appears to have some kind of thread around its two ends. If you have any idea on what it is, please let me know. (Measurement is in centimeters)

Maybe it was just used to hold some farm utensil or tool in place or together..

The Thread appears to be baling twine. It is quite possible that the Bronze piece was used for a quick temporary repair on a farm implement or the tack for a work horse.
