Hello,

I found this during the weekend. I found it near an old Church where apparently a CW buckle was found as well as an Indian Head Penny. (1888)
I really do not know what this can be. It seems to be a bottle neck. I am not sure what it's made of. Copper? It also seems that whatever was inside, may have been sealed with lead (?) But I am not sure of that either. The grey thing inside the top seems to be lead, it's all I know.
Thanks for your help !

Thanks Coilcrazy2. Hadn't thought about this. Why not. The opening at the top still makes me think of a bottle though. Can't figure it out.
Thanks for your help. :icon_thumleft:

Hello Taltahull,

I'm not getting a good sense of the piece from your photos. Could you lay it down for a profile photo, please? What are the dimensions?

Kinda looks like part of a door knob.

I'd guess it to be a chunk of a Turkish style ewer (or similar vessel), with the stuff inside that looks like lead being the tin plating (on the inside copper) that they lined these with.

Here are some new pics. I hope they will help. As you can see, width is 3 inches and height is 2 inches. Last pic is a bottom view.
Thanks for your help !

Thank you all guys. I was obviously wrong with my bottle top. You have very good ideas. I would never have thought of those. Thanks uglymailman and iron horse, could really be these !

Could even have been part of a roof finial. You mentioned that it was found near an old church, which made me wonder; does that church have finials that look like they could be copper?
