Tomorrow I will be heading to my 4th storage locker auction. I have purchased 3 lockers in the last six months. I had a very good score on an "Avon" locker, but it took me over 6 months to sell. I purchased the locker for $225 and made over 2K (a very slow death--this locker nickel and dimed me to death--but I did make a profit so I guess that is what really counts) on ebay plus $200 at a local auction. The rest of the junk will be headed for a massive garage sale as soon as it hits a good 75 degrees here. I did find a locker that had a killer pine Texas style queen bedframe that retails for $600 and got the locker with 2 nice bikes for $200. It also included a Hamms beer pitcher that brought an extra $40 on the bay. But, alas, I put the bedframe in our extra bedroom and spent another 1K on two night stands, a dresser, new bedspread, pillows, etc. Goes to show you that spending money at an auction means--at least for me--spending more money. I did find over $30 total in change and bills--so that was a nice bonus. Hopefully, tomorrow will bring a good locker.

Happy Hunting--no GSales round these parts right now.

Waiting for spring,

Any silver or precious metals? HH

Have not had the luck on the metals. Perhaps one day. :)

Do you find that the owners have taken out some of the really good stuff and just left mediocre stuff?

Yes, 99% of the time. I bought a unit yesterday--not so good on this one. This person had serious medical issues. I have found over 200 empty prescription bottles (no exaggeration here). I did find a Daisy 1970s C02-200 hand BB gun, a set of Mar Railroad cars, costume jewelry and watches, vintage baby shoes, and more junk--with lots of emphasis on the latter. I only stayed about an hour looking yesterday as I had a game last night. Mr. Apush & I are heading this morning to clean out the locker. Oh yeah, I also found 11 Cents. :) This one appears to be a bust. Paid $275

These prices are crazy compared to what I've experienced. I've only been to two storage auctions. The first I only watched, the 2nd I bought two units. In the first auction, the most expensive locker was only $220, and it was enormous-like a two car garage, and you could see some nice furniture. In the 2nd auction I bought two units, both with wide doors, one climate-controled, one not. I paid $10 for one and $55 for the other (that was the most expensive of 5 units). I picked a few items I liked and more or less gave the rest of the good stuff away, and paid labor to have a bunch of stuff carted to the dump. There were no "buyer's fees" or taxes either. The hard part for me was emptying the units promptly. I bought on a Friday afternoon and it took most of the weekend to clean them out. It was fun, but not particularly profitable. The "almost a big score" was a memory foam bed, queen size with box spring (retail $2K) but it was stored poorly and got moldy ($10 unit) I had to pay to have it dumped.

027.webp This is the Daisy BB Gun. I don't think I can legally sell this on ebay? We also found some shot gun shells and 9mm as well.
009.webpAlso found some old postcards which I have listed and those have peaked the most interest. Listed yesterday for 7 days. Have a few watchers.
042.webpStill have much to go thru! Apush

Storage unit sales are a bust here, The facility owners go through the unit first and they are allowed to bid on the lockers so there is not going to be any deals just from what I have observed! Good luck!.......Scott

That bb gun is cool. It is made to look like a Colt Match Target 2nd Series 22. If you had found the real thing, in 90% condition, you would have found an easy grand. I am not positive you can't sell it on eBay, but believe you are correct. I am sure you can look it up quite easily. You can probably sell the pieces/parts to it, like a real gun on eBay, if Mr. Apush is handy at all and by piecing it out, make more than just selling the pistol as one. I haven't looked for the value of it either, I would just be doing the same as you will, ie, research it on the net. But it is definitely a collectors item. If you list it, if it can be listed, let me know. Good luck with it.

E-bay is letting a select few sellers sale bb guns to see how it works out.So you like I will see some for sale I listed one and was contacked and told About what they are trying and that if they decide to allow it they will make an annocment.

Thanks for everyone's reply! I do appreciate it. I sold 4 ammo clips 9mm (without the ammo) today for $40.00--probably could get more, but I was happy to recoup that. The pawn shop (yes, I said the dirty word) would not take live ammo if it was not in the box. We also had 2 speed loaders with 357 magnum shells. Forgive my ignorance when it comes to guns, et. al. I took all the ammo plus the bb gun to my auction house. He said he could sell it. We shall see what it brings. Also had a dozen shot gun shells. I will tell you this ol' gal did not like handling any of this. I was off today, so I made it my job. My dad is a retired police officer and of course, I grew up around this, but the older I get, the more weary I get!

This guy was in the military. Found a military issued sleeping bag as well as a few uniform shirts. Lots of odds and ends I have listed on the bay. I will let everyone know what I ended up with in terms of $$$. I will be returning the love letters, photos, discharge papers back to the storage unit folks to return.
Happy Hunting,
apush

That's what I always wondered, why wouldn't the locker owners cherry pick before the sale?

Just for the cost of a cheap lock, they could easily skim the good stuff and leave the junk.

Simple. Most people don't think they are going to lose their locker. They think they will get it together in time to save all their stuff. I have a friend who has been going through hard times. He put a stellar collection of Olympic stuff in a storage unit. He called me at the last minute and I saved him from losing a great collection. I probably could have gone to the auction and bought it from under him for a Penny on the dollar or less.

In most places there are legal requirements as to how property in storage lockers is disposed of. I'm sure there are plenty of places where the law is ignored but it's probably not worth it to most owners.

Yes. Also, check pockets on all clothes. I once found a 2001 $10 Gold Eagle in a 14k bezel in a ladies dress jacket from a storage unit I bought. Found a $20 bill that was folded as small as it could possibly be folded in a pair of swim trunks. Check everything closely...
