Stoneware pot.

I found this stoneware pot in my riverbank a few months ago. It took me an hour to dig out from the twisted roots just to find that the bottom was broken out. Does anyone know how old this piece is and possibly what it was used for . I have never seen stone ware with a handle like this. Thanks for the help. - Justin

That is a nice piece. Very ergonomic with that offset straight handle. I'd vote it a batter jug, in Albany slip, latter part of the 19th Century…

Hey Justin,

I'm gonna hedge my vote a little. The form that I have seen a few of these offset straight handles, is the bean pot. Not often with the pouring spout. Could go both ways, I imagine. What size is yours?

That certainly looks similar surf. I measured the base and how tall it is and it's 7 in wide by 7 in tall.

Unclemac I spent a good bit trying to find the bottom but never came across it.
