I could use some help identifying this piece of stoneware. I can't seem to find one like it online. It is 5 3/4" tall, 4 5/8" in diameter at the bottom and 3 7/8" at the top. There is a stamped star on the bottom and what appears to be the letters "S S CO" above the star. I think this might be a wax seal jar based on the looks of the top. Could this be North Star Pottery from Wisconsin? You can also see some cobalt blue on the bottom of the piece. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Anaerobic Sealed Container

Yes it is a wax seal type. I don't recognize the mark. Sorry.

What you 'actually' have here is a water-sealed crock. With it's proper lid and a 'maintained' layer of water it will provide an easy, almost care-free way to ferment vegetables such as sauerkraut. By preventing air from entering the environment the chance of growing mold or surface yeasts on your ferment is all but eliminated !
