Got some rocks and or stones that have been laying around for awhile... some for many many years...
Have no idea what they are for sure and or if they are worth continuing to save them etc.

Values would be a plus.

I know quite a bit about stones but mostly precious and semi precious varieties...
And I have some "ideas" on what some of these may be but really am not sure in the least.

Thanks in advance.

ARC

Will post pics on this thread of the MANY I have accumulated over the years...
Beginning momentarily...

Stay tuned.

First up... I have always thought this stone was a Tourmaline...
It is actually made up of wha appears to be several different stones...

Bought it long ago with some others at a garage sale for $1.

My vote is amethyst on the purple one

My vote is amethyst on the purple one

There is a strong possibility of this BUT...

Amethyst usually grows within a geode formation it seems... AND... this one has a "star" or square inner realm.

The first might be beryl and tourmaline?

It's very hard to ID minerals from photos and sometimes even when you have them in your hand, many minerals comes in a wide variety of colors, a few tests are in order, we can start with a couple of the most common tests that most people start with when trying to ID an unknown specimen.

If you know how to do a Mohs hardness test it would help greatly, also you need to determine the streak color, there are other tests that would help as well but let start with these first, test the specimens in an area that will not detract from it's appeal when viewing them.

If you don't know how to do these tests, you can find instructions online, they're relatively easy to do.

That being said just from looking at these 2 specimens, I would say KEEP them, could be valuable or not but the eye appeal of both make them worth keeping!

And I'm the guy who knows less about rocks than BigWaveDave.
Which means, I barely know the rocks that are rattling around inside my head.

That said, I have a link bookmarked on my other PC to some college lab in Europe (I think) that had a pretty good "show & tell" YouTube video for amateur gem ID.
Some gems can be ID by the way they cleave, and how many flat surfaces that have when you try to break them up.
I'll see if I can dig it up for you tomorrow.

My guess is tourmaline and fluorite. I was a geology major until I ran into Calculus (3 times). So I probably know least of all about this. But, who knows, maybe I'm right.

I have never ever ever seen anything quite like that.... ever ! Not in my wildest dreams! !!
How did that head form from out of that rock?
Shrunken head? Or was it carved?
Lol

What is even more strange is that there's a identical "head" growing out of both specimens!!

You could roll down to the rock forum. Lots of knowledge there.

I agree that the second is likely Flourite but I am not sure what the makeup is of the host rock! The first one is possibly green Kyanite or Tourmaline but I am leaning towards the former. I am unsure of the host rock but there appears to be Moonstone in the rock as a companion.

I don't know diddly about those rocks. I do know they are amazing, so I vote you keep them. Show us some more!

I have a slew of rocks from over the years...
Accumulated from various places...Yard sales mostly... most of them I know what they are.
Some I am "iffy" about...
And some like these are just "odd".

I always thought "one day I will see one just like them or a similar one and I will finally figure it out"...
But some like these are really weird / rarer it seems.

The stone you have there are nice. It's good other could see the work on them. They tell a story. To bad you didn't find them yourself. If you had I would have told you that they are for a buried treasure. Well they still are so if you could find out where they came from. Then let me know and I will steer you in the right direction.
