Stone Shot? (Granite Stone Balls?) ---> Moqui Marbles! Solved.

Hello Treasure Net members. I am new to your site having found it while searching for the identity of these items.

They are stone balls, made of granite I believe. We found them while diving 30 miles from Beaufort Inlet, North Carolina.

We found an anchor first that was stuck in a ledge. We believe it to be modern as it looks like an anchor from a fishing head boat.

Near the anchor, on the ocean bottom, we found these round stones. Sizes vary from 3/4 inch to 2 1/2 inch diameter.

They're not all perfectly round, but seem more spherical than would be found occuring naturally. (I guess.)

One of our guesses would be that they are stone shot that would be used in a swivel gun mounted on a ship.

Not sure how we could confirm this unless we actually found a swivel gun.

Here are some pictures.

I think they are more likely to be naturally occurring hematite concretions

Thank You for your quick response. I have never heard of this before.

I did a little research on hematite concretions and discovered they are sometime refered to as Moqui Marbles. Primarily in the South West of the country.

The pictures I found look completely similar to what I found, so, I guess that this item is "solved".

Thank You.
