Spotted this underwater in an ag ditch today and said to my self...that looks man made. Fished it out and now I'm not sure if it's an artifact of some type or yet another piece of farm something or other that has fooled me.
It's made from stone and is nearly perfectly cylindrical. It's ~.75 inches in diameter and 5.5 inches long. The ends are flat. It has a lot of scratches/pockmarks etc., including two straight parallel lines on one side. There is also some discoloration on one end (as pictured). I don't know what the stone is...it feels fairly light and has a little sparkle to it.
This was in Watonwan Co. Minnesota near the Watonwan River. It would have washed down from a farm field that's on a high point overlooking some marshy bottomground, so the position is right for some past habitation.
Any thoughts?
