Stone piece

Really have no idea what this is! Another odd find I found at a late 1800s early 1900s homestead.
Appears to be made of stone. Is broken so unsure of original size, but is currently 8 inches by 4 inches. Looks like there may of been a handle or something at one time on it, now broken off. I found no other pieces with it (yet). Is VERY heavy!
Anyone seen one of these before?

Possibly an old electrical insulator for a high voltage power line?

possibly ceramic, the crackling and darkness developing in the cracks is similar to a eg; a piece of a plate bowl or tea cup that has been in the ground for years. Also as Redyoh mentioned a ceramic electrical insulator.
