I got out exploring today,
Came across a stone marker, Just the two letters and various dates :icon_scratch:
Searched along stone walls and trails in the woods.
three rings in one hole... don't know what their made from, all reading around 20 on a Safari, Pewter?
foriegn coin, if I can't read the letters I can't Id it :help: (another 20 reading)
looks like a harp and '25'
A rather forlorn looking rider on the horse..\
RemUmc Best No 12 Fullbrass Shotshell,
And a little silver.
Jeez, it was hot out there, HH All

I really like that 12ga shell it looks like its in decent shape. They used to bring a decent price I am not sure what they sell for now though.

H.H.

looking good nice variety of finds

Nice finds ! Herbie :icon_sunny: You don't think the stone is a grave marker ?? I like the early dates on it ! Interesting site ! Is there more ground to cover there ? Keep us posted ! MaineRelic

Been doing a little searching. I may be WAY off base, but finding the Jewish coin made me wonder. Were there any Jewish symbols on the stone? Were there any small stone around the base of the head stone or around it ? It almost looks like the tablets of the Ten Commandments. The crack in the center looks interesting.

Also, I have done old grave marker rubbings and some end up like art work that can be frame.

Id email these people to see if they could give you any insite as to what it might be, IF its a grave marker.

What are the markings on the rings ?

Ive never seen a stone marker like that here in NH,is that a town dividing line or a property marker?

Thanks For all your replies
OldMaps, My 3rd Fullbrass in almost 2 years of hunting! this one is in amazing condition, no dings, still nice and thick, my best example. I have a #10 but it is not fully intact. I like these pieces.
VWandSTUDEBAKER, You got that coin nailed. Nice work!
MaineRelic and SaltyShark, I stayed well away from that stone....
Though without any names, I still assumed it was a grave marker.
lots of the main roads used back then are now just 2 wheel tracks,
eroded and a serious challenge to vehicular passage.
I took my truck once all the way up 'Pound Road' even with a 6" lift it was a challenge. so I mostly walk them now, there are often coins & Rosettes right in the roads.
I should say 'were', I got a lot of them last year, 3 LCs shallow and easily found,
among others
Saltyshark solved the marker mystery.
It is definitely a town boundary marker, and around the same date as the pound.
Scrawled dates are old Graffiti, How Cool :D
Now I can search near that stone, big thanks on that idea, even though I was pondering the meaning of 2 letters, the towns didn't register.
Farmington/Rochester! TaaDaa :sign13:
I wonder if this is the only one remaining, I think there must have been others erected,
whether they survived is another thing.
Here's a better pic of the rings detail, one plain, one patterned, one looks like birds or fish & fluer de lis.
Headed out with Wallhangers for a fullday hunt at my best sites, I have been staying away from them for over a month, new finds have probably sprouted :laughing9:

HH all!

Nice finds! Love to see your water/shore finds!
Keith

some nice ole finds-like the rings-congrats

Nice variety of finds there..
In the colonial days the children always had horsemen like that..

Blaze...

Looks like a grave marker to me. It has a born date and death date on it. If so some people leave stuff at graves ( just like rocks on a headstone).

Looks like you had a great day out Herbie!

That town boundary marker looks really old! :o

Love the look of those rings and three in one hole too! :notworthy:

How old do you think they might be? :icon_scratch:

Dave

Thanks All!
My replies must be too long winded...
The stone is definitely the line between Rochester & Farmington, location is correct.
definitely not a grave marker.
Nutria and Antiquarian, No idea on the date for those rings, no markings :dontknow:
guessing some nickel or tin alloy from low tones.
Best Digs All

Hello Hispan :hello2:
Thank You, But definitely not a grave marker !!!!!
I don't understand all the replies mentioning this when it is clearly a town boundary marker :icon_scratch:
I hadn't searched near the stone, but now that I know what it is, I probably will.
HH all
