Hey everyone! I recently came across an old Indian site I read about in an old book I was reading. I was digging there and came across this long stone that has been worked with a handle. I can't find anything else that looks similar so I'm not sure what it would have been used for. Does anyone have any idea?? It measures 12" long by 2" wide. Also believe I found a little mortar? And a scraper? It looks just like an oyster. Maybe carved to look like one? Also got an axe. Any idea if this is really what they are? How old could they be? If anyone has some info I'd love to find out!

The first pic does kind of stick out like a effigy. I was always told that with the mortars swirl marks should be evident.

The depression is about 2" deep and you can see marks of back and forth very well. It could possibly be an effigy. The long stone was found metal detecting and there was a hand forged iron hoe and hand forged iron handsaw. They were about 18" deep and under huge roots. All 3 pieces were literally laying on top of eachother with the stone in between. This is what makes me think its a sharpening stone. You can see marks on both sides of the stone going down. Its incredibly smooth. This site had native american presence from 10000bc to 1700ad.

You got me convinced. Pretty sure they are not natural and all appear to have been well used. I'd take em home and proudly display them. Nice finds and very old...

Looks like rocks implements used in ways of the stone culture folks. Not seeing any effigy in any, just a knob on a rock. That long skinny rock is a sure bet I'm thinking?

Just remember natural rocks come in all shapes and sizes. I agree #5 looks somewhat like a celt (hand axe) because it may be flaked around the edges. I think the others look like unusual natural rocks... there are millions on any riverbank.

The elongated stone has the appearance of a scythe sharpening stone...(a scythe is a pre-mechanical weed eater)

Might want to add some pics of the end sections...

Should have a gritty feeling...not smooth

Could be a farmer drop...
