GTP nailed it and that is just a piece that has had chips taken off of it, but it still is a type of artifact.

Hot topic lately :)... Nature produces some neat looking rocks. Keep searching and look for signs that the Rock was worked such as chipping, flaking, or pecking marks. Agree with everyone else here.

Perhaps the photos are not the best... all have work marks, drawings, and/or flaking except 2 items. They have been confirmed relics by the university and Cherokee here... hmmmmm

All your items pictured are not Native American artifacts except the one in photo number four which appears to be flint core. Sorry, but the rest show no signs of manufacturing into any type of tool. I would suggest that you concentrate in the area that you found the core.

Not sure what university advised you about the material but I just do not see it. Any effigies would pop out and be clearly shaped. I do not see any drawings and I have a hard time with all of the descriptions giving on the photos. I am surely no expert but again all look natural except the one that is possibly a tool or a core of some flaking. Sorry but I think you were given some bad info. I would suggest to research at a local library or do some searches on the Internet on your area where the rocks were found. Research local tribe examples of stone tools, effigies, etc and compare.

The only piece that may, and that is a big may, be an artifact is pic #4. It may possibly be a large Spall that had flakes driven off. The rest are all naturally formed stones no matter who told you they are artifacts. Just what is their purpose if they are? Please don't say some are Effigies or have carvings on them, because no they aren't or don't.

I would imagine there will be an artifact show coming up somewhere near you. I wouldn't suggest hauling everything there, but maybe take a few questionable pieces and the piece pictured as number 4 and see what you get for opinions.
I bet we aren't far off.

If they've been confirmed, why are you asking for opinions? I warned you that you wouldn't get much traction in this forum.....

If a native wanted to make an effigy they would definitely make it a lot better looking than any of those , I would say imagination can get the best of us

For the record many of the stones are Paleolithic, Neolithic, basically stone age.

....yes...things made of stone to fall into "stone age"....but that in no way means primitive or poorly worked....even Homo Erectus made recognizable artifacts over 1,000,000 years ago...yours are not.

This entire area was once inhabited by the Caddo, Cherokee, and other tribes. Also the Spanish and Vikings. And Yes, I have found many manufacturing sites on my land, and erosion. You all seem to think just because I recently joined this site... I am a naive novice. I have done so much research and and friended many archaeologist who have helped me along. Many of these stones are from the Paleolithic, Neolithic periods and later. NOT ALL STONES show "Flaking, etc" but you can tell they have been worked by markings, hafting, etc. you Experts need to open your eyes and look closer at my stones and others stones. Yes, there may be natural markings on some... you think stone age people and other's never used these stones, shaped and added to them You think over time... especially in a creek, time and rolling over and over again does not wear off or smooth over markings once very visible? now mere shadows? my stones are not just from the creek but ALL OVER my land. Wake up folks... not ALL is what it seems.

If you truly believe that the rocks you have posted images of are all man-shaped artifacts, then please take them to a QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL for evaluation.

As to the mentioned but unnamed university, what were the qualifications of the individual doing the evaluations? Same for anyone else you have shown them to.

Sometimes a rock is just a rock.

This thread was started by stating there have been disagreements whether or not these are artifacts we are just siding on the side that disagrees. I guess we can just agree to disagree but again I encourage you to research and look for comparables or to what is being said on this thread. We are just trying to present the facts and the components of what makes an artifact from any period of time. Yes some rocks were used that have no real sign of usage but calling rocks shapes of animals that don't look like animals that's a different thing... Sorry but these are just rocks.

We get people just like you at least once a month on here. They post what they believe are artifacts and have painstakingly collected over the years and then can't take it when people tell them otherwise. I'm not sure who told you any of those were artifacts but unfortunately they were sadly mistaken. You are obviously not going to listen to collectors that have collected for almost their entire lives, for myself that is over 50 years, so I guess this will be my last try. Like suggested above, take these to an Artifact Show and see what response you get there.

Well if these guys were all over your land, why don't YOU wake us up, and show us some obvious artifacts. Surely there must be an abundance of them you have picked up. After all, they would have been much easier to spot than these obscure objects you have an abundance of.

So far we have seen one actual artifact, a core of yours, show up on two threads.

Their confirmation was mistaken. I'm going to direct you to this recent thread. What you are arguing in this thread is described at this thread. You are mistaken, only the one piece showing flaking is artifactual. Again, this is a very clear example of a lack of sufficient experience in differentiating rocks from artifacts. The folks here have hundreds of years of collective experience handling artifacts and knowing the difference between unaltered rocks and rocks fashioned into tools by early man. The university and Cherokee are mistaken. That may be tough to buy, but you can take that statement to the bank. They are mistaken in what they told you.....

Again, what is described at the link below is exactly what is occurring in your thread. But, with education and experience, you too can find genuine artifacts....
