Hello all. I just purchased the 12in coil for my GTI 2500. I was wondering if anyone has had better luck with this coil getting deeper than the stock 9in coil? I have found some Wheats and some silver at about 3 to 6 inches, but that is all I can seem to find coins at. I am wondering if I am missing some older coins with the stock coil. I also got the 10x14 dd coil. How does this coil work and compare the two. Thanks for the time.

well ya never know........... I would think the huge coils would be better for places you all ready went over or those "hunted out" areas because you will get the deeper stuff people missed.....................

Good Luck

All the depth i could get out of my GTI 1500 was 4 inches and sometimes not that...........I sent it back to Garrett twice in the last year ...They Reprogrammed it....Recalibrated it... put a new upgrade in it a chip i think............and still would not get more than 4 inches if i was lucky it would get that deep........and my 12 inch coil would not do any better..........So i got rid of it..............Now my Ace 250 will get 6 inches plus it cost.... $400.00 less than the GTI 1500 and my 250 work's better than my 1500 even after i sent the 1500 in twice in the last year could not get more than 4 inches out of the 1500 ??? ??? ??? ???..........I got tired of packing it up and going to the post office with it.............................==Jim==

Jim, I also have a 1500 that is now a piece of crap after Garrett "fixed" it.

As for the coils in question, the 10 X14 is the deeper of the two due to it being a DD coil where the field is more of a windshield wiper blade instead of a cone so it covers more area at depth. Overlapping isn't as important with a DD coil. Just because you are only finding coins at 4 inches doesn't mean there are older ones deeper.

  • Sandman .............my 1500 would only air test at 4 inches......My 250 at 6 inches .....same in the test garden.
My 250 would sound off at 6 plus inches......In the garden the 1500 would not pick them up..and the 1500 was in for that problem twice in the last year.I don't trust Garrett repair now.
Yes i like the Double DD coils i started useing them on the first Sovereign minelab made back in about 1992
And i still like those DD....................................................==Jim==...............................
