That's what I said!! I just thought about this, grooved axe heads, at one time were found quite frequently here. Every 2 or 3 years someone got lucky. Not any more. I found this one a couple years back. I bet it had been 10 years since I heard of one being found until mine. Not one since.

Hey now days coming out with one whole one is a good day. I would be happy with that.

Congrats on the point!

i've never found one in 30 yrs but my dad found 1nice one

Is it still in the family? I simply got lucky to find that one. I wasn't even artifact hunting when i found it. I was quail hunting. It has one small ding or chip on the flatter side of the bit. It doesn't hurt the piece at all.

That's a nice days finds! Nice point.

Safe and sound under glass as it should be.

I have sifted wet sand for 6 or more hours and found nothing but debitage....at days end, I would be begging for what you found! Most days though, it's about one keeper artifact an hour. The thrill of the chase is worth the pain.....lol.

When you say "keeper", does that mean no damage or anything more than debitage? I ask because I have seen old timers toss nice stemmed pieces because their point was missing. Don't see much of that any more, however. They were old farm boys and did not even consider that ancient damage could have caused the break. I have seen days when debitage was a "keeper" myself. Lol

I know sifting very well... and just speaking from my own experience.. using the term artifact literally..... my sifter will often have dozens of artifacts in it every sift. Things like..broken pottery bits,bone,flakes..ect.. even the shells of a midden are all artifacts... certainly not keepers. I think that's kind of what he meant
