Well that goes to show you never know what you will find out there! nice work, that is in really nice shape! HH.

Jeffk of Troy,
I'm in Amherst, about 5 miles south of Lake Erie.

Nice butter dish!!! I can't read the hallmark, but is that a date of 2000? Someone buried it within the last 9 years?

I wonder how many people ignored that big aluminum can signal!

AWESOME FIND!!! To be honest I thought you found a plated tray an you didn'tknow it an assumed it was sterling.. Imagine my surprise when I seen the sterling stamp in 2nd photo!! I am very happy for you... only one thing that sucks about your find is it's monogram that will devalue it a lil if you would want to sell it as an antique.. But melt value I would think it's at least 4-5 troy ounces.. so it's worth around 60.00

Neil you sure that isn't the item number?

Thats a nice find makes me wander who left it their ?

That is a beautiful tray. I would also guess it's a butter tray. I don't know about the age of it though, maybe around 1900?... I'll bet a child was playing with it and left it out there. Very nice find, congrats!!!

J , That is really a wonderful find , In almost three years on this site I've never seen another
one posted . While I would like to concurr with most respondants - that this is a butter tray,
the engraved initial is not suggestive of table use but argues for part of a vanity set . Think
of placing a stick of butter on top of this engraving , not really palatable is it ? I do believe
it to be solidly late Victorian (1890's) or perhaps Edwardian -1900-1910 - very art nouveau .
I'd be quite jacked to find a piece of beautiful silver like that ! Argentium

That's awesome!!! looks old and a nice piece of silver too boot!

Hey Jhenry.....I am in Sheffield Township....just a stones throw from you. Am new to the hobby, have not even been out yet but purchased the 250 and waiting for a thaw. Have been researching and checking blogs to learn as much as I can. Might bump into you one day. Merry Christmas to all
