When I do an air test on sterling silver (rings), I get VDI readings from the mid-40's to the lower 70's, depending on the ring. They are all marked Sterling but they are different sizes. The target indicator will also register from Tab to Dime sometimes. Is this normal? What readings do other F2 owners get with sterling? Thanks in advance for the help.

The vdi is determined by conductivity of the interfering object in the coil's field.

The size of the object has an important part in that measurement of conductivity.

Kinda like a flattened aluminum soda pop can a feet deep will register as a silver quarter or silver dollar only an inch or two deep.

Men's gold rings register a much higher vdi than women's gold rings also.

I'm guessing your vdi will change based on the angle also.

It's all normal.

Well said, Steve!

Yes, thanks Steve. Your reply makes sense and was very informative. Thanks again. I am still getting used to the Fisher. Overall, I love it.

Yeah, the F2 is just awesome!
