im up for any ideas this was found at a pre 1940 site its 3" long 1" wide has sterling 430 stamped on it and has a hole 3/16" in the end with a black plug that comes out 2014-03-27 21.37.11.webp2014-03-27 21.37.27.webp2014-03-27 21.37.52.webp2014-03-27 21.38.08.webp2014-03-27 21.39.17.webp2014-03-27 21.39.48.webp

its possible would the black plug be a connecting point then i assume

The 430 may be the pattern number.

so maybe sterling was the maker with a pattern 430. from what i could find as far as metal 430 is a form of stainless but if that is it it could only be plateing because the metal is thin tin like so maybe a pattern number is more likely i may of been thinking in the wrong direction

I believe Taz is correct, likely a button hook handle, and it looks like it says sterling 430 to me which as others say metal purity and pattern number.
