I was going over an old bank big I found at a thrift shop. I mean old, it has a simple drawstring top. Inside I found 2 steel wheaties.

Great find. Reminds me of the time I bought a little pouch from a sale at at church, and found a
$1.50 in it. nothing old, but I didn't pay but ten cents for it. Congradulations.....

Congrats on the 1943 steel cents! Hope I find one soon. A friend recently mentioned that she has a huge batch of cents stored up that she planned to throw in the dumpster! "No way!" I yelped. So yesterday she handed me the first small bag to sort, more coming later. This friend and I were each one year old when your 1943 steel cents were made, so we're from the wheatie generations, lol.

Andi, spread them out on a table and run a magnet over them. The magnet will pick up any steel.

nice.......Matt

I had no idea there were stell cents...I though they all were copper...

never go to bed without learning something new

Cheers

As far as I know they only minted steel pennies in 1943 and they aren't terribly rare.

Yep they made a bunch of them to replace the use of copper in pennies, not to mention brass which was in demand for war materials.
