A good article IMO , 'Showing the Good Relic Hunters have Done , & Not just the Bad'.
Man those Fired 3 ringers & 1 Complete 3 ringer + shell Frags Cost them over $20,000.
Tho ,Ill bet they found more. but even if they found 2 CSA Plates it was not worth it. & Repairs
Form what I have Seen is Most National Battlefield Parks are full of Fired Minnie's (Worth maybe 50 cent -$2)
Plus IMO..Out of their Context -(Where they were dug) might as well be bullets fired from a Hunter in 1867. In :No Wheres TN.....& Selling Fake "Neck Ties" I'd add a Couple years for that.
May be off topic , but ; I just love that Cell Tower on the top of Kennessaw Mountain....Very Historical!
I know who those guys are, and they are pretty much white trash rednecks. they got a whole lot more out of the parks than the article led you to believe. the main guy, Kenny Fagin, also aged modern reproductions and sold them with fake certificates of authenticity. I'm glad they got caught. they really give relic hunters a bad name. on the other hand, I think the penalties are way too strict on that. they would have gotten far less punishment if they were looting in ferguson, selling drugs, or dealing in child pornography. I know exactly where they took the Hotchkiss shells out of the creek, and there was no damage done to any waterway. as far as that aspect goes, it is a classic example of gross government over-reach. but... those guys cheated so many people, and took relics out of the parks strictly to sell, so I'm glad they threw the book at them.
