STATE PARKS REOPEN!!!

Are these the same parks that were previously shut down to save money?

If so, good news!

If not, good news anyway!

It would have been cool if they had closed and any rules banning detecting would have been lifted...but I think it's better they are opening back up. There aren't too many natural places anymore, so keep some of these places run by rangers so that we can at least cherish little slices of wilderness we do have.

MD'ed at a couple of those over the years and you may still be able to swing a coil and ogle the grosbeak, should you choose to do so, Joe.

Tim,

I detected over at White Pines back in 94 or 95, that's where I scored my first two Standing Liberties (if I can find them I'll scan them). That's back when my family would go there every weekend it seemed. You had to get a permit to detect, if I remember correctly, but no one else seemed to want to do it at the time. Oh well. Anyway, there were certain areas off-limits to digging, I'm guessing nesting or breeding grounds for endangered species, or areas containing rare or fragile plant species. Those kinds of areas should, in my opinion, should always be left to nature...but that's just me.

Yep, out at White Pines a couple years ago. They only give you a pass for a day or two at a time. Rock Cut gives you a three-year pass. Others ask how long you want it for. Strange rules, or lack of.

You can also hunt DNR hunt sites with a permit from the nearest State Park HQ. Many ofthese hunt sites have old homesteads on them, long gone but what remains is between you and your coil to discover.
