I just happened to read this online this morning:

http://www.recyclingtoday.com/News/news.asp?Id=11705

"The bill will go into effect in 30 days. Other parts of the bill include limiting scrap metal sellers to one catalytic converter and two consumer appliances without proof of ownership. Under the bill, scrap dealers also would need a yearly license, which would cost $500 a year. Scrap dealers with a felony or theft conviction the past 10 years would be prohibited from obtaining a license."

I'm in Ohio, and this caught my eye. Metal theft is indeed a problem around here.

this is long overdue, Toledo is kicking around the idea of similar legislation. Theft is rampant up here.

Sad but true Here in Col we had people stealing man hole coverstons of copper wire and park bleachers to sell for scrap. Not sure where you are Fiatboy but that could have been part of the reason that lit the fire.
