A UCC church camp in Dubois Illinois is starting a new program for the Natures Classroom they put on for Middle schools and high schools. Groups from all around the St. Louis area come to Dubois Center to learn about Nature and take creek hikes and study animal tracks, etc. Now we are starting an archeological dig class for the students that come. We want to salt the area they will be digging, with some flint chips and broken arrowheads and other tools so they can learn about archeology, and native american life. We are going to burry some posts and things to make it look like an old house foundation. We are also going to make a burn pile and scatter some things about. The only problem is I would like for them to be able to keep what they find, flint chips and broken pieces and such. I have quite a bit of flint chips and some brokes (not nearly enough of what is needed) but I really want the students to enjoy participating in this new program.
So what I am getting at is; would any of you guys be willing to donate some of those pocketfulls of flint chips or hammer stones or whatever you can. My name is Jake Skibinski and I would really like to try and get this program off the ground. I am just happy that I now have a reason for keeping all those chips instead of just for the flower garden. If you would like to donate I will give you my address or the camps address. We will have about 50 to 70 kids a week all participating in the dig at one point or another, so it will take quite a bit of pieces. Also if you have any suggestions I will take all of them. Lastly I will be at the Collinsville show.
Thanks so much if you can help,
Jake Skibinski

Same here Jake. Send me your address and I'll round up some pieces for you. I could also send you some Pottery Shards if you would like some of those.

Yeah Trevmma I know what your saying. Either way it is such an important part of history, and I hope to inspire some kid to maybe make an important archeological discovery someday, or just have some fun digging. Your right though I work with a couple people who are just like the person you were talking about.

Keep us posted. Let us know if you are receiving the packages. Mine goes out tomorrow and I thought this thread needed a bump.

Have not got any yet but am confident they are coming soon. I can't wait to post some pics of the kids digging, it is going to be exciting.

Been swamped at work. Have over two hundred brokes and flakes and goodies packed up now and ready to ship on Friday. Let me know when you get them and what you think.
Carry on the good work !

I don't have much so I was only able to send about a dozen pieces. Pretty nice ones, I think.

Watch your mail, :icon_thumright:
