Hello and Happy New Year to all.
Seems like forever since I posted, its been three weeks.
Well, I was looking over my find logs from years past and I have NEVER hunted in Michigan in January. This year, we are still without snow and the temps are around 40 degrees every day of late and with the holiday hustle bustle over, I had some time the past two days to get out and hunt a bit. I hit two schools, one each day, about 3 plus hours hunt time total. The first was one I didn't search yet and the second I did in August. Covered the woodchips and a little in the grass around the play areas.
I was just happy to be out swinging but I really started the year off with a bang. At the first school I was finding tons of coins and some jewelry and then I hit on a nice 14kt gold wedding band near the swingset. It's about size 7, so it must be a woman's band. I was elated and may day was made. Today at the second school, finds were slow as I had cleaned the place out in August. I managed a few jewelry pieces and about 25 coins. The last area I searched was the tot lot, heading toward my truck. In it, I found an earring at the bottom of the slide. It looked like a kids earring, big and gaudie, so I just stuck it in my pouch and headed home, still happy about yesterday's gold. When I got home, to my surprise, it is hallmarked 750 (18kt) gold and the pinkish/red stone appears to be a diamond (which I'll have to verify). There's another hallmark on the earring , A star logo thingie, followed by 860 V1 (or VI?). The stone is about 5mm diameter, I estimate a 1/4 or 1/3 carat stone and baby does it sparkle! So it may be a fancy red diamond? Needless to say I was really happy now.
Oh, a couple more surprises, while cleaning the clad up I heard that sweet chinging sound of silver. Our ears are trained aren't they ...lol. Sure enough, there was a 1953 D Roose 10 center in my pouch, and also a 1946 wheatie...bonus babies!
I ended up with $9.61 in clad 121 coins and quite a few trinket jewelry pieces and dang, had a lot of fun metal detecting in January in Michigan's not frozen ground.
Happy hunting to all, thanks for reading.
Here's some photos of today's finds.
