Didn't you dig that at a Confederate camp while on vacation in TX? (It multiplies the value by about 100 or more) ;D

Start the bidding at $1.00. I'm sure you'll do just fine.

It's obviously different so unless there is different varieties probably not.

Yes, it's similar but different. Think it's worth considering that it could still be a stamped brass star rosette or hatpin, however. Just a picture I came across.

It is different but it is similar too, worth looking into. Thanks for that.

The one in the picture might be lead backed which would be another major difference.

Your star almost looks like it has the remains of glue on the back. Was there any modern finds dug close?

I dont think thats glue Patch. I think its whats left of the finish coming off. Plus the corrosion. There were no modern finds around where I found this but not to say this isnt modern. Cause it certainly could be.

Strikes me as 19th century all the way.

The color difference is why I thought glue.

At this point your guess, or anyone else is as good as mine.

Good Winter posting material!

We also encounter what is called a three piece, which in that case the center disc was soldered on.I am not aware of the Star having been made in that form, but I do have a Star that has no hint of the belt loop ever being attached....so maybe.
Here is a picture of the three piece. The center disc was soldered onto the "T",bar. You said there was remnants of "glue",possibly??How about light solder??

Hey Kuger, is the one you had flimsy? It looks like they are stronger then mine? This is just thin? Would this be what your is? No renents of glue or solder. What iron patch thought was glue is just the green patina. Atleast thats what I think. Thanks for your help. Would the star in your or mine represent Texas? Or is the star representing somthing else? Thanks again.

Hello,YES,these are thin, stamped brass.I have not been able to find any history of Texas or Mississippi, affiliation to any of the sites I have found them.I can not see any remnants of solder on the two lone center discs I have found either,it was just an assumption that POSSIBLY,they were made as a three piece as well, but I still have no evidence of that. Can you note any thing around the outside rim, where the bridge for the belt loop would be attached??

There is just the tiniest bit of a lip on the outside edge. I say tiny because as you know they are so thin. There would defenitly not be any connection to texas at this site, thats why I asked. Glad to have an ID on it. Thats neat somthing out of the ordinary for me up here thats for sure. Thanks so much.
