I'm not a trekie myself but I know lots of people are so I took a chance on 3 items that upon further check looks like it could pay off nicely. I found 3 new box sets of season 1, 2, and 3 of Star Trek the original series at a sale. They were priced at $20 each, I got them for all for $50.00. The seller said they paid $50 each for them but needed the $ so I took them. I looked on Ebay to see if I made a mistake or good deal and it looks like a good deal. I have learned they were released in 2004 but are not available in this box set anymore. Last I had seen one seller had the season 1 set at $75 and there was still 10 hours to go in his sale. Another has all 3 sets out with a starting price of $200, it just started recently. There are many similar sets out there but they were released in 2007 and 2008, they don't look to be getting as much $. Guess I just got lucky cause I didn't know what I was really doing!!

Re: Star Trek find...

Hello! Very nice find! My son and I love the star trek series. One thing about e-bay though, Did you check the completed listings to see if any of these actually sold for the prices you saw! Alot of times when someone list an item, they put a price on it that they think it is worth or what they would like to get. That does not mean that it will sell for that price. If I am telling you anything that you already know, please forgive me. I have sold things on e-bay since 2003. If you are a member of e-bay and you want to check what kind of prices certain items are selling for, type your item in the search box and see if you can find an item like it. Then go to the left of the screen and look for the word "completed listings". when you find that, put a check in the box next to it and select the search box in that section. If that particular item was listed in the last 30 days, it will show up with a red price or a green price. If there is a red price with no bids, it didn't sell! If there is a red price with a number under the bid column, it will usually say reserve not met. That means it got bids, but not what the seller was willing to let it go for. If the price is green, it sold for that price! If all the items you saw that sold with a green price sold for different amounts, check the condition of the individual items or there shipping price. One item may sell for .99 cents with $10.00 shipping, and another may sell for $6.00 dollars with $4.00 dollars shipping. Some people try to get some of their money out of it through shipping, but that is not good for your business if you are a seller! Once again, I am sorry if I am rambling stuff that you already know, I would just like to help! Take care and Good Luck! Paul

Thanks for the response Paul. I've done Ebay on and off for a few years now. Good tip on tracking auctions though, the person that put them out for $200 still does not have a bid. I did see the $75 bid for the season 1 tape however. I'll probably try them at auction next week and will update when finished. :coffee2:

Just a quick update... like I said in the previous post I checked a couple auctions for the same dvd's, their starting prices started at $200 for auction and another had a "buy it now" price of $350. I put mine out for $175 with free shipping. They were gone in 2 days. I paid $50 for the tapes, $13.75 to ship priority, insurance and delivery confirmation, $13.50 ebay fees, and $5.75 paypal fee (unreal). So I made about $95.00 on a quick sale, it's the 1st sale I've done in over a year. It's fun to do but the fees are crazy now!! Post office, Ebay and now paypal too are out of orbit!!! Here's a link to my auction... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260457608782&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT

Excellent :icon_thumleft: I am happy you made a good sale! You are right about the fee's though, they are getting high! I get especially irritated at PayPal for charging me a fee to accept an instant payment from a buyer! Their fee is based on the total selling price including shipping. You take an item that sells for 99 cents with maybe $8.00 shipping and there cut is maybe .75-.80 cents for me accepting the payment! Add e-bays final value fee and I just as well set out a yard sale table! Anyhow, Great job :headbang:

Thanks pganjon!! I did set up a garage sale table for a weekend and did pretty good with it too, but there were things that I would have sold on Ebay in prior years but it just wasn't worth putting them up for auction. You have to get a good product at an excellent price to make it worthwhile on Feebay these days... J.Raud
