Star or starlike design

Does anyone have any idea what this object might be? It looks like some sort of knob or handle, the starlike top (brass) being about the size of a quarter. The design looks like a 5 pointed star with rays going out from it. Any possible connection with Texas or other Southern troops? (Just hoping!) Thanks!

Looks like a starfish to me. If the other end is threaded, I'd say it's a drawer knob.
