I need some help grading.

I posted some generic photos of 2 quarters my grandmother gave me a few weeks back.

I tried to get some better pictures today. She could use the money and I want to get the most out of them for her.

Don't get me wrong. I love these but just want to help her out.

The local coin shop gave me a price for the pair. 180.00. Seemed kinda low. Dunno.

Both are 1924D

I took the one out of the air tite that has the date more visible. The other I left in. I handled them with gloves since the day I got them.

Thanks

I'd say that's probably Fair

He may turn around & sell for $260 $300
or spend the money to try and get a AU Grade

But he was probably offering you average Buying price (grey sheet)

Naturally if you shop around or get them graded yourself you may be able to get more.
of course, You'll also find someone willing to offer you silver value $5.57 each

Ok. I will check another place I know next week. I just thought 180 for the pair was low...but who am I. I'm just learning.

Thanks for the help. They are really nice coins.

I looked in my 2010 Red book (I don't think prices changed much, if at all since)

F-12 $100.00
VF-20 $130.00
EF-40 $175.00
AU-50 $230.00

Being F- VF are pretty much centered in the grading scale is why I feel Grey sheet would be about there
Plus it's hard to get dealers to pay extra fair prices. they feel they need to double their money.

I would probably try to get him to round it to $200 :laughing7:

Forget about the EF-AU range. These will not grade EF as in both cases Liberty's toes are worn and the drapery across her right leg is worn. The first one is VF and the other might push VG (the picture in the airtite might have caused loss of detail that isn't evident). Difference between G and VG is all about the date. Very Good - Distinct date. Your second coin does not. In Good, it is valued at 55. VG - 70

Still very nice coins. You might want to try selling direct on TNet. Pay for the Charter Membership, and list in the classified section. You can also sell on eBay. You might get a higher price.

Thanks all.

I'm going to see what one other shop says. I'm thinking about keeping them.

I guess it will depend on what the other shop says.

There is also an app for iPhone I believe it is coin book pro. It seems decent also updates melt value by coin.

^^^The app is great. It has proof set values,1 cent through the dollar coin values,a silver calculator,a gold calculator, and the mintages for all these things^^.And it is only I believe 1 dollar on the iphone.
