Unfortunately the walking was toasted and couldn't even get a date.

Well after coming back to the walking liberty and hitting with some baking soda (already a destroyed coin) I was able I pull a date and get a bit more detail. Year is a 1945 which is barely into the walking half years. Nonetheless, it's a nice chunk of silver.

You might try placing them in warm water with salt, baking soda and aluminum foil (folded up) and see if you could get a some more of the crude off. It shouldn't hurt the coin any worse.

I will run silver for a week or two, only pulling them out once every other day to go over them with a q-tip and rinse and then place them back. I was able to get some really dark silver coins almost shiny and with none of the crusted stains on them. Sometimes once I am through soaking them, I will soak them for about two days in white vinegar and it seems to take some dullness off of them as well. On some really nasty silver, I will pick really close to the letters with a really fine toothpick to get the crude off. Silver will scratch with just dust, so be careful.

Sweet silver - Congrats!

Doesn't look like you're going to pull a date off that.....a light scrub with baking soda and water will bring some shine back.....looks like silver value only.
