Hello

First, this is a great forum. This is my first post and I am hoping that someone might be able to help me. I am attaching photos of a presentation sword that I have, that I am hoping someone can give me some assistance in value and research on the foundry markings. It ,is apparently French, made in the 1800's and is one of four, that hung in a castle. Thank you.

Quite ornate and covered in lore. Looks like a great item.

Does the sword have a makers mark ?

I have attached a foto at where you can find the marking . The foto is of a dagger and is similar to a sword .

Thank you for your help. No, it does not have any markings on the blade, other than ornate engraving. On the inside of the scabbard are the foundry marks. I was told that it was one of four, presentation sword and was originally hanging in a castle. Upon researching further, this was actually confirmed. By luck, I happened across the exact same sword, but with a gold scabbard and a very plain blade. I reached out to this individual and he confirmed what I was told. I will attach photos.

Your welcome and welcome to the board . . .

Well , the one that you shown seems that it was sold off

Is there a value at what it sold for ?

Or is there any additional information that they can provide ?

Maybe reach out to the estate at where it came from and see if they are interested in it ?

These are just a suggestion(s) n you have a few option(s)

Thank you for your reply. I did reach out, he wanted at that time $50,000 US, (unclear as to actual sale price). I am attaching a email I found that confirms what I was told. I'm really unclear as to what I should be asking, and I have done research, there are alot of copies that are similar, but not exactly like the two I have seen. As for reaching out again, great idea. It was 13 years ago, however. I appreciate all the suggestions, everything helps. In my original thread, I mention the foundry markings, photo attached, would the date, be the date it was made? Can you maybe help me with deciphering this? Thank you so much, it is truly appreciative, great forum!
