St. Croix & St. Thomas

Re: St. Croix & St. Thomas

They are all over the place!

In Saint Thomas Harbor alone for instance
during the 19th century in a two months span
a massive hurricane hit and sunk well over 50 vessels
right in the harbor - then a short time thereafter a tidal wave
came through and sunk even more,,,

One of our research specialists who follow posts I'm sure
can elaborate on this particular catastrophic series of natural events....

Almost everywhere you dig in the harbor you will find something
interesting but.....
It all designated a national heritage site and you all will be considered
dastardly black pirates, {not to be confused with black politicians} and
or other scurrilous rouges and be subject to arrest, if caught pilfering
the national heritage that they state, should belong to all of us but
be left to them to study and protect.....

Good old boy politics.... what's new, under the sun besides the
color of the new politically correct jack up boys. When in Saint Thomas
go to the Pirates Chest, a gift shop at the top of the tramway and ask for
Sean. He is an avid diver, has been living and diving there for over a
decade and knows his way around.

Re: St. Croix & St. Thomas

And I believe there is certain History Hunter down there that has loads of cool info....

Re: St. Croix & St. Thomas

Sean is cool balony dives with you Dom,heard he left St T recently. Maybe wrong. Mc Manus is a rat end of story just have a beer and hear him gloat then watch your pocket empty as he relates another story first hand as if his....rat. Shipwrecks in the Caribbean all over, St Croix parks service...St Thomas 19th C and not Trompuseue goblin beer talk.
Fun place....

Re: St. Croix & St. Thomas

I had lived on Strand St. in Christiansted in the 90's before Hurricane Marilyn put me out of work and out of home. I worked for Dive St. Croix run by Miles and Mark Sperber. There are a number of intentional and unintentional wrecks around St. Croix. Knowing the history of the island, will help in knowing where to look.

Re: St. Croix & St. Thomas

Puerto Rico has wrecks, history and good people. It was worth money PR first, with a name like Doc .... there you go

On a side note, I was in St. Croix in October 1989 with the 135th Aviation Company of the Kentucky National Guard during Hurricane Hugo relief. We were staying in some empty condos and a couple of pilots and I were walking down the beach when we came upon an old cannon lying up against the dune bank. It appeared to have Dutch writing on it. I took a couple of pictures of it, one being my TN picture. The island government was in chaos at the time and trying to recover from the devestation and we had no idea who to contact about it. We pretty much just left it there. It was the coolest thing I had ever found. Probably 18th century in origin. Don't know what happened to it, but would like to find out.

Anyone know of or have any info on shipwrecks in st croix or st thomas
thanks

Hey Doc,
I can't help with the wrecks there but Mahogany run on St Thomas is the equal of any golf course you will ever play and cobs better than mostdde0a
