Thats a neat thing, The animal looks like what you see on English silver or pewter. dont know but I like it.

Yes looks like a weight to me, 18th Century. Find these types of weights in England. This one as 3 dots on it and the square stamp mark is worn, but it may be a lion.

You Sir are AMAZING!!!! I can't believe not only were you able to ID this thing, but you found a site with pictures of them too AND some fantastic history on these weights. That is a very informative link.
