It could be a Spanish Maravedi (copper).

Without significantly better pictures, it is unlikely that anyone here can identify it.

It isn't like it is sealed in an air tight container. Just unbend a staple, slip it out, and take a few pics in the sun light on a dark background.

Then you can at least get a likely date range.

BTW - Where is Grandpa's? US? UK? Location might help with the ID.

Wally old found at grandpas needs identifying
Needs taking out of the holder and a better picture, and possibly weighing, for people to give you better help with the ID. Just my thoughts on it. Hutch.

I might have an ID soon, I sent a pic of the coin to someone who IDs coins on another site.

It may be a 1/2 tanka from India, minted in the 1500s. If so, it is worth only a few dollars.
