Was pretty excited to have this spur come out of the ground in one piece. Working a pretty good site, extremely trashy. An old boy who sifted this site as a kid in the fifties put me on to it. Ive done some sifting already and its produced a ton of cartridge shells and a glass and eagle cuff button. I have found a couple eagle buttons, cartridges, etc lying on top of the ground. The spur doesnt have any markings, any idea on the type? Also some of these buttons appear to be hammered flat. That old boy who told me about this spot said he found a lot of them too and heard the soldiers used to use them for poker chips? Anyone ever heard of that. Last pic is of these buckles. I assume they were used for some type of leather strap? Most say "H B & Co. Solice." Thanks for looking.

Great finds!I love the spur and have heard the theory of possible gaming chips.Your buckles are likly trouser buckles. They were affixed to the back of the pant to take up slack in the waist

Yah.. May have been used for a poker chip or checkers.. There is documentation in diaries of soldiers using their buttons for game pieces...

I want too add that Yesterday I took the time to post some pictures from Stanley Phillips books in "Civil War" thread here on TreasureNet. The buckles you are asking about are Suspender clips . You can find more photos here to help you ID things better if you ever need to. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/civil-war/370792-civil-war-reference-stanley-phillips.html This book also gives numerous buttons that are flatten and marked in the book as "Poker chips" I don't know if i added those photos from the book but i will check.

Hut,I dont care what your book says, and you have been shown proof on here as well, the vast majority of those buckles are not suspender buckles!!!How many suspenders have you ever seen that were 1.5",or less?
