I have been doing some winter hiking. I came across an old stone wall. it was about a mile back in the woods I followed it to a foundation. did some research and found out it was built in 1830. been abandoned since about 1920. the ground is thawed finally so I made a trip out with my detector first trip this year. definitely a virgin site and a beautiful secluded location.

Those are some real good finds!! I think that site will net some big scores for you.

I have barely scratched the surface. I am quite certain that my 2 year large cent drought is going to end soon.

Nice work and there has to be older stuff

I'm sure there is. I was so excited I had a hard time going slow. I was just sort of meandering around the general area of the foundation. all of the coins came from two pocket spills. the Stone wall goes the whole way around to the 12 acre site that's where I believe the oldies are lurking. I think I'm going to do a lap around the inside of the wall on my next visit.

That is a awesome looking site...gotta be some really old stuff there somewhere. !!!

Nice bunch of coins....keep us posted !!

Incredible site man ! You are living the dream .

it is a dream site for sure. it does have its downsides though I had my dog with me on the original scouting trip and we had an encounter with a large black bear. thank God my dog stayed quiet and the bear just ran away. here is a picture of the big bad Rottweiler after having seen a bear. she definitely wanted to just go home.

Awesome site! I like the idea of bringing a dog along - probably makes you feel a little more secure (except for when there are bears around).

yeah she watches out for me while I'm diggin. I do worry about it though between the Bears and the coyote tracks that are actually larger then my Rottweiler dogs tracks.

funny thing I will brave bears and coyotes but the idea of hunting in a park with people staring at me scares the crap out of me. I guess I just am a genuine hillbilly

Amen brother, give me an abandoned colonial site a hundred times to one park! Great saves, and encouragement to get me out when the ground thaws up here - tried today, three inches of mud and than frozen dirt! Keep digging that site, critters and all!
