My first watch winder. The hoop says "Sept. 1874".
And that bird button actually has seperate little cage bars. Very intricate!

The big rifle cartridge is a 50-95 WCF made for the Winchester 1876 rifle.

Having trouble finding anything about John G. Fox. If anybody has any ideas I'd love to hear them. :icon_thumright:

That watch key is really neat! I've never found one like that. Definitely good detail on the bird button.

Great relic day.
Congrats on the cool looking button and winder.
Never seen a button as that posted up before.

I use yahoo for a search engine and I got the same return as Don did, plus some others that may be relevant, John G. Fox, Carson City, Nevada.

If you add Carson City Nevada to the search, quite a bit comes up--mostly historical newspaper clippings, but you can learn quite a bit from them.

He was a big deal in CC & Reno.
Just a couple of examples:
1883
March 6, 1883 – Carson Appeal
John G. Fox caught a couple of three pound trout in the Carson on Sunday.
Fruit stealing boys. Mr. John G. Fox’s little orchard at the head of Spear Street has borne quite abundantly this year — especially one damson tree and the pear tree. Before the fruit could get fairly ripe, the trees have been stripped of their fruit by marauding boys. Chinese servants and their prowling countrymen are guilty of much of the tree robbing business ...
