Hi,

These are some of the finds I got at the flea market I went to today.

IMG_0001.JPG

On the left you can see a pack of two Swedish onetime use can openers.
Price: 0.20$

And on the right is a set of spoons. Sadly there aren't any markings on any of them at all (nor on the box) so I don't have many facts about it.
Price: 1.5$

If you know anything about any of these two please let me know!

What material are the openers made of? They look a lot like a P38 can opener issued to military personnel for opening c-rations. I still have the original one I was issued in the 80s - it hangs on my key ring and I still use it occasionally. The markings on it are different, but the design is the same. Last time I saw them for sale was at a flea market when a guy had a whole box full of them and was getting a quarter a piece for them.

The person here also had a full box of them. It's most likely made out of steel. I don't think it's a military one though, although it could be. The text translates to "Put the can opener like the photo shows. When the pointy end has penetrated through the can move it step by step back.". And the markings/text on the actual can opener says "Fyrtornet" which basically means "lighthouse" and under that it says "can opener". The back is empty, no text there. I've searched for it on the internet but not found any results. Added note: I believe it can be military since it looks exactly like Swedish military can openers (and probably American can openers too). The military ones don't have any markings on them though.

Still have my Viet Nam era opener on my key chain. I think you're mistaken on the no markings assumption. The ones we were issued had / have US P38 on them. There's a ton of knock offs out there. The ones you can buy in Walmart & sporting goods stores are good examples and are complete garbage!

I still have mine. Worried me all through Basic training because the DI informed use there would be big trouble if we kept them.

...."one time use"??! .....MUST be a Chinese rendition of a Swiss tool !
A Harbor Freight P38 ?

It probably isn't one time use, I didn't know what it was until I asked some friends and family. Someone said that they're probably just normal can openers because people were using glass and such to open cans and it wasn't good so they made these cheap things as a solution.

The spoons should have the Maker's name on the back of the handle. If so, you should be able to look the spoon design up by googling the Maker and spoon or flatware. If not, then they may be generic but who knows!

Thanks for the tips! These spoons aren't anything special though, I understood that because of the price. And sadly there are no markings at all on the spoon. Completely empty.
