spike??

Hello everyone. This will probably be an easy one. I thought this was a Railroad spike at first but, never seen one with a looped end. It also has some sort of grove on the spike end piece. Is this in fact just a normal old railroad spike? Thanks-

Could be a bending hardy for an anvil.

It may have longer and more pointed and spike-like . Then it could be a part of a crude barn hinge .

something like these would insert into the hole ?

Looks like an old hinge pin for a gated fence.That piece you found would have been more tapered & driven into a wooden post.
