Came from a bulldozed hotel. 1850s-1900 known opperation before being shut down (could be earlier but dont have proof). Age? Value? Used for?(beer? soda? wine?) Is it brass? Copper? I've heard some of these things can be worth a bundle. I've heard some of them are quite old. If its worth something whats the best way to clean/preserve it? If it's not worth much, how can I get it looking like it did before it was putin the ground?

Regulator for a gas lamp. Monty

I thought those had little screw regulators, not a 90o ball stop. I thought the 90o ball stops were used for beer and wine taps. I also thought the screws for the regulation of the gas were below the lamp and it doesnt even look like there is a place for a lamp on this thing.

Yeah, I think yours is a gas lamp valve. The regulator is a continuous knob screw rather than a 90 o ball valve. Plus the gas lines screws back into the main. Mine is flat on both ends like a maple tree syrup tap.
So should I try to clean it? Is it worth too much to clean, or is it orthless and I can strip that sucker with electrolysis or boiling in peroxide?
