I found these spherules along the base of a sandstone out cropping/ridge here in Colorado, there are hundreds if not thousands of them showing or in the soil. They are virtually weightless.
The spherules or whatever they are, appear to be like volcanic ash ejecta(my first impression), they are very hard, black inside, almost looks like a very fine foam.
A friend, his wife, and I returned to the site and found that not all are round, some are elongated(like a blunt and flattened football), some are a rounded tear drop shape(with a blunt tail). His wife suggested that they could be man made spheres for gardening, I forgot what she called them, but the article she sent said they have charcoal interior with terra cotta coating, but those are all round and smaller, do not absorb water as the gardening material does. But, if they are man made, they are in a strange place. Guess it is possible though.
