Lately I'll save a handful of my halves to use in my daily routine. A while back I got in the habit of spending $1 coins just because. Figured a while back I'd do the same with halves. Entertainment value alone is enough. MOst younger cashiers aren't sure what they are, or what to do with them. You can see them inspect the halve, looking for a dollar value.
A couple mornings ago I stopped at the c store to get hot tea. It's cheap, just hot water from the coffee machines and tea bags. Rang up as $0.30, I had a quarter and a half in my hand. I went to hand the girl the half, she kind of looked at it funny and asked for the quarter instead. I asked if she was sure, she said yup. Spending halves saved me a nickel right there.
Makes me think I'll start spending $2 bills again. That's entertaining also.

I spend on average 50$ a week in dollar coins. People get so snooty when they have to take 10 of them for my everyday purchases. An I just laugh an say they are legal tender.

I love spending them, half dollar coins that is, the young cashiers have no idea what they are and sometimes have to ask the manager if they can accept them. lol
Had an older guy at Wendy's think they were dollars and tried to give me back change.
But i did find if you spend them very locally, you often get them back when you ask for CWRs at the local banks.

My father has always been a huge proponent of having a one dollar coin in circulation. when the Sacagewea came out he went on a one man mission to put as many in circulation as possible. Anytime he bought anything he always paid with at least one of them. He had a grand time doing it...mission failed. He tried again with the presidential dollars but ran out of steam.
