Ok guys... Back from a West TX civil war/Indian war site.

Got what I'm sure is a Spencer cartridge... But need a bit of help or a second opinion.

The copper cartridge is pretty well worn, and bent in the spots I need to measure so that's why all numbers have a "range"... As in I measured all spots three times in different areas to get an average idea.

Like I said, I'm damn sure it's a Spencer .56-56... My main concern however is the cartridge overall length. Mine comes in between 1.081-1.138" ---that's a bit long for a .56-56

Here's my other area measurement ranges...

Rim diameter> .632-.656

Base (directly above rim)>
.571-.576

Rim thickness> .059-.062

Please keep in mind, as pics show, there are dings and dents all over this cartridge... So please bear with me and the measurements!

So cartridge guys, is this just a deep crimp Spencer .56-56 or is it another of the variations?

P.S. there are NO headstamps and cartridge is three-line crimp style...

Know this thread is old, But just came across it. You have a 56-50 Spencer Civil war period case. Can tell by the length and the three stakes that held the bullet in. Best wishes

Steaks!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't even see any Hamburger....................LOL....HH
