Relic Hunting
I hunt Civil War (CW) relics and more and more of the sites left to hunt are areas full of modern trash. I have a 6X10 DD coil and while its good on seperatation, I need a coil with a little better seperation, but that can see bullets up to about 8". Most of the CW stuff falls in the 5"-9" range on these trashy sites. Any suggestions on a coil for the MXT that will give that kind of depth as well as good seperation?

Bill, I have used the 10x6, 6x4, and 5.3, and all things considered, I prefer the 10x6. Why? Better depth then the other two, and "nearly" comparable trash separation as with the 5.3. Suggestion: use the 10x6, up the gain as high as your soil conditions will allow, and sweep the 10x6 SLOWER then you would normally. After working an area from one directio, then re-work it from a 90 degree angle from teh first. For me, this gives the best combination of depth and target separation, and performance. Hope this helps; HH Jim

Thanks Jim, I'll give it a try.

The 6x10 dd should be good. Make sure you are in relic mode and set disc. as low as you need. the high and low tones should help pick up good targets that need investigation. The newer 300 coil will go a little deeper but you are also scanning a larger volume of dirt.
