Wow. Dug? found on the surface? I'm no expert, but they look old to me. I think I would call them preforms, or knives. Whats the rest of the story?

well they buried in the red clay and i kicked at the dirt and i saw the outline of the top one,so i dug it out and saw another and so on and so on....these were found in uwharrie nc

Wow! Once again I am no expert, but it looks like a blade cache, or preform cache. Once in a lifetime find,IMO. I think the silence from other members is due to fact that we hear lots of great stories that turn out to be just that, great stories. Congrats and thanks for the view.

rocky- congrats you found a cache. the area you found them in had alot of indian activity as you are probably aware. i would call these knives/blades and believe all of them to be finished pieces. i own several points and scrapers from a particular area that were not flaked completely but were still usuable and most notably have a working edge. just because the largest one does not have flaking on both sides does not mean it was not finished or is a preform. the "oyster edge" on it is classic for a working tool such as a scraper. because they are all blades i'm making this assumption. its just my opinion but because i live in nc too and have seen it myself i figured i would chime in. you really scored with this find and in all the years ive been looking i have never found a group buried together. i think its really a dream for alot of guys because these caches do exist and often give up some really nice blades when they are found. but man are they rare to find!!

View attachment 628911it didn't hit me when i first seen this post but yeah seems you found a cache. Very nice find

I found this cache 10 years or so ago, all broke but 3. They were spread about a 4ft area, not stacked or grouped together like yours.View attachment 628910 these are just some of them there were 235 pcs all together.

sweet cache of blades and preforms you better dig up that area you will find more.congrats on that cache

yeah id be digging around some more if i were you

I thought cache too, but wanted to hear more educated opinions,, COOL!!!! WTG! really a great find, and thank you for sharing it here!!!

ok so i have a ? what is a preform, and what is the value of this find? and these were found around an area called black ankle nc......

I really don't know how much they could be worth. A preform, in my opinion, is a form of stone tool that's incomplete or it is the starting formation of a tool. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but I wouldn't split them up.

Not much value if found as individual items. That acidic clay does a number on stone. Real value is from being found together as a Cache. Individually they are common type and material. Together like that pretty rare.

yeah there is no way i would split them....i was just concerned with value for insurance purpose....thanks for all the info....now i want to get a backhoe and go back in there

hard to put a value on that find but as a cache i would "guess" around 250.00
