Is this a spearhead, knife blade, or arrowhead? The one picture just shows a comparison of the size of arrowheads i normally find. Any suggestions/guesstimate on the age would be greatly appreciated also.

Hi, I would call both of them spearheads. too big for arrowheads. Both are really nice!

Beautiful points! Welcome to T-net. I don't know much about the subject, but wanted to mention that I liked them.

Welcome! You may want to post in the American Indian Artifacts Forum. There you may get some more positive feedback. Nice looking points. :icon_thumleft:

The smaller white point was used for a wide variety of game for one era of Native American Indian, the other much later in the paleo-indian era. At least the one's we've found here are i guess this would also depend on the location you found them. Here in the South ive found a lot of the smaller points like the one you have pictured not so much the larger darker one.

I'm no authority in any capacity but my opinion is ----
I'd call the Big one is a Lance point. For jabing into large or tough targets. Has a short frame and large hafting area for large stout stick.
Spear points i believe are longer in shape with smaller base for hafting to a smaller shaft. The small point is an Atlatl point for sure. Bow shot arrowheads are small, like barely cover one joint of your finger small and smaller.
They are both nice! Hope you find more!
PEACE

The large point is ~7,500 years old. It's an early archaic corner notched point. Most will call it a Dovetail and I think that's about right. Probably it's a knife blade based on the size, weight and overall shape. It's definitely not an arrowhead for two reasons - 1) it predates the bow in North America by 6,500 years and 2) it's way too big to be effectively launched by a bow. I don't think it's a spear point but it definitely could be. It's really a nice blade, classic form, very good condition, nice basal grinding. Lot of people will hunt for years and never find one that nice.

The little one looks like a Decatur. Probably a little bit more recent, but still solidly in the Archaic time frame. Based on it's size and thinness I'd guess it's a spear or lance point. Again, a nice find.

Welcome to the site.

That is one heck of a nice point! Anyone here would have loved to have found that!!!!

Joe is right on the money. That DT is very beautiful. They both are, but that one is a G8-9 I bet. Very nice finds for sure !

That is a Notched Base Dovetail and by the looks of it a very nice example of one. They were Knives and not Projectile Points.

Hi new here. What type do you think this recent find is?

Yeah, what Twitch, Get The Point and Grim Reaper said!
