You've put up a series of pretty interesting relics that came from your father. Was there no discussion, or backstory involved with these?
I know my kids are no longer interested in hearing about my dug "treasures," but they did have many a story go in at least one ear, whether or not it went right out the other, still remains to be seen.
How did he come by these? Please do some 'splaining will'ya.
My father explained to me that these relics were from his uncle who excavated them from the Lewis & Clark trail. Some he found in Montana and some at Fort Bragg. That's all I know unfortunately
Lewis and Clark never were in Fort Bragg, CA, they wintered in Astoria, OR near the mouth of the Columbia River. If the lance point was found along the Columbia, it could have been traded by the British Northwest Company, then by 1812, the Hudson Bay Company. Along the Missouri in Montana, or the Lewis and Clark trail across Idaho, the lance could have been traded by several different American Fur Trade companies along with the HBC. The first fur trade rendezvous was in 1825 or 26, and there was lots of trade from that time on, both along the Missouri and the Santa Fe trail. It's really a great find, and yet another item on my bucket list.
