Spanish tree bark carving tool

Could have been just a knife, or a short iron rod.

There are lots of beech trees here and it is easy to tell the difference between a pocketknife carving and the spanish carvings.
With a pocketknife it is difficult to controll the depth and the lines tend to be straight instead of flowing, like the spanish ones are.
When I was a kid I thought I would try to replicate a snake carving I found. It was impossible to do with a barlow pocket knife.
That is why I think there must be a tool that the spaniards used.
I always wanted to see one.
Could there be one in a museum somewhere ?

It's not the knife, it's how you use it ;D

Also, they could have used short iron rods, like chisels to carve trees. Not sure if there is a museum somewhere. Might wanna try to search ancient Spanish tools.

The Spanish were famous for their intricate leather tooling as well as wood carving designs...so I am sure that some of these same tools for leather were used on trees as well.
